Mumbai: Celebrated filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, the man behind the iconic romantic film Aashiqui, believes that Saiyara will become this generation’s most defining love story. Bhatt’s 1990 hit Aashiqui catapulted newcomers Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal to stardom, and its music continues to be celebrated.
Now, as Yash Raj Films (YRF) introduces fresh faces Ahaan Panday and Anith Padda, Bhatt draws a compelling parallel. “Every generation has a love story that defines it,” Bhatt said. “For me, Saiyara is that film for this generation.”
Speaking about the film’s potential, Bhatt added, “When I made Aashiqui, I treated it with purity and sincerity. Thankfully, audiences connected deeply with it. I hope Mohit Suri, who is like a disciple to me, achieves something similar with Saiyara—or even surpasses it.”
He noted how viewers are already drawing nostalgic comparisons between Saiyara and Aashiqui, but believes Saiyara will break new ground. “It’s time each generation surpasses the previous one, and I believe Saiyara will redefine romance for today’s youth.”
